In 1992, The Board of Trustees of Christ the King Regional High School recognized a need in our and adjacent communities for a high-quality child care serving children from the ages of six weeks through prekindergarten age. Christ the King Community Daycare/Preschool is a unique facility responding to the community need for professional child care, stressing academic and social growth. Parents feel secure in the knowledge that their children are safe in a warm and loving environment.

Christ the King Community Daycare/Preschool recognizes that the early years of a child’s life encompasses the most rapid intellectual and physical development.  Christ the King Community Daycare/Preschool reflects a learning environment in which teachers and assistants challenge the child’s cognitive, physical and social emotional growth with an age-appropriate curriculum, uniquely designed for each age group.  Each class also makes use of our interactive rooms like our music room, computer room, and art room, enhancing their learning experience by making it balanced and modern.

In addition to our advanced educational program, your child can also enroll in one of our additional programs such as karate, dance, acrobatics, cooking and soccer.  These programs not only supplement your child’s education with physical activity and social skills, but are also convenient.  Your child does not need to leave the school to attend these classes.  Why run all over town when your child can do it all in one place?

Christ the King Community Daycare/Preschool has a variety of programs and flexible schedules to suit your needs.  Classes are offered year round from ages six weeks through five years old.  Our Daycare is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm.

Christ the King Community Daycare/Preschool also offers Pre-K.  This program is for children 4-5 years old.  Children must reside within the five boroughs of New York City.  Our Pre-K is a part of the NYC Pre-K for All program, therefore is offered free of charge.  Extended-care hours for our Pre-K students are available during our Daycare hours of operation.

Why We Are Special

  • Curriculum

Christ the King Community Daycare/Preschool reflects a learning environment in which teachers promote the child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth with an age appropriate curriculum.  Our curriculum is continuously enhanced offering our children the latest technology tools, iPads, SMART Boards, SMART Tables and touch screen desk tops.

  • Faculty and Staff

We are licensed by the NYC Department of Mental Health and Hygiene, as well as the NYS Department of Education.  Our staff includes a full-time NYS Certified Education Director, a full-time nurse, Assistant Director, and Administrative Assistants.

The critical relationship between the experience and training of staff and the quality of our program is well documented. Pre-school teachers, teacher assistants, and other staff have an in-depth knowledge of a child’s development and how young children learn.

In all of our two year old through preschool programs, we have a licensed teacher and assistant teacher in each room. All of our staff is carefully selected for their professionalism, enthusiasm, and experience with children. Many of our staff have come full circle in the Christ the King community, by starting out as high school volunteers in their senior year and then continuing as Early Childhood Education majors in college. These alumni often do observations, student teaching, and practicum at our center, and some continue working for us or work in the local private or public schools.

Staff screening includes reference checks, fingerprinting, and State Clearance Registry. All staff is Infant/Child CPR and First Aid trained. They have access to ongoing opportunities to increase their understanding of children and the New York State learning standards to improve practice.

  • Facilities

All of our indoor and outdoor spaces promote the safety, health, and well-being of children and adults.  Classrooms and outdoor spaces allow appropriate organization, movement and interaction among the children and the adults.  The equipment and materials support learning and are adapted to the diverse interest, needs and abilities of all children.  Bathrooms, with child-sized utilities, are also available in or adjacent to the classroom to accommodate toileting.

In addition to our classrooms, our center includes an art room, music room and computer room that classes visit regularly to enhance their learning experience.  There is an indoor gym and two age-appropriate outdoor playgrounds to promote physical activity.

  • Music Education

Music fuels our minds and our creativity. Enhancing your child’s life with music helps all aspects of learning.  Music is a highly effective means of communicating information and is a useful tool in teaching basic concepts such as counting, colors, social skills, etc.

Christ the King Daycare/Pre-school has partnered with Edu Music Inc. to incorporate an enhanced music program into our curriculum for students as young as six months old.

The Edu Music program model is based on a developmental approach to music education, rather than a performance-oriented approach.  It builds on the understanding that a great deal of development needs to take place before participants are able to “speak” the language of music and competently express themselves by singing and moving. Using a fun and participatory curriculum, children develop life skills through tonality and rhythm exercises, singing, and movement focused on motor skill exercises.

  •  Additional Programs

In addition to our advanced educational program, your child can also enroll in one of our additional programs such as karate, dance, acrobatics, cooking and soccer.  These programs not only supplement your child’s education with physical activity and social skills, but are also convenient.  Your child does not need to leave the school to attend these classes.  Why run all over town when your child can do it all in one place?
